Interview with Prof. Shi-Kuo Chang
Let’s take stock of the 15th edition of the ‘International Conference on Multimedia Distributed Systems’ which ended last Sunday in San Francisco after three intense days of work. The
entire organizational entourage of MDS 2009, showed satisfaction for the
quality that marked the active commitment of the 80 participants from around
the world who have worked from morning to evening in two halls.
The most satisfied appeared the patron of the event, Professor Shi-Kuo Chang,
holder of a chair at the University of Pittsburg, one of the greatest personalities of the
multimedia industry, creator and head of the most accredited reviews in the
field.
The secretariat of the MDS 2009 has already published the volume with the
conference proceedings, including the intervention of Dr. Claudio Cappelli on
the Cerict tests carried out on the video compression Codec developed by Eco
Controllo S.p.A. The next edition of the Conference 2010 which will take place
on a cruise to the Bahamas Islands is already fixed.

ECO CONTROLLO ON THE RIGHT WAY
After three days of intense and productive work, the 15th International
Conference on Distributed Multimedia Systems” was concluded in San Francisco.
Much appreciation has raised the intervention of Dr. Claudio Cappelli who has
shown the tests carried out by Cerict on the video compression Codec developed
by the Italian Company Eco Controllo S.p.A. of Naples, which confirm that the
Codec Cappelli allows a wider transmission bandwidth saving than any other,
including the latest MPEG4 and H264.
In particular, it achieved widespread success the announcement of Dr. Cappelli
that Eco Controllo, by 2010, will totally abandon, in its development plan for
a better video compression, the way generally followed till now, that of
macroblocks.
Among the most enthusiastic sharers of this crucial development there was the
accredited Brazilian analyst, Mr. Juan Felipe Oliveira.

“The work of Eco Controllo S.p.A. is a work in progress. By the end of 2010 our
target is the implementation of a Codec Proprietory that totally eliminates the
use of macroblocks in video compression”. Claudio Cappeli has declared it yesterday in San Francisco during his speech
on the second day of the 15th International Conference on Distributed
Multinational Systems scheduled September 10 to 12. “The elimination of macroblocks – underlined the Chairman of Eco Controllo – is to realize a leap in transmission techniques, with the possibility of entering into a new
dimension in the use of the bandwidth, the most valuable asset in the
civilization of the information”. “This development brought forward by the Italian company has to be given an
enthusiastic welcome – commented on the spur of the moment Dr. Juan Felipe Oliveira, accredited
digital TV analyst for ‘Positivo Informatica’, the largest producer of PCs in Brazil and ninth in the world –. Indeed, the way of macroblocks does not allow further significant
improvements; we should go much further!”.

TODAY AT THE CONFERENCE
ON MULTIMEDIA ITALY COUNTRY’S LARGEST
IN SAN FRANCISCO TOMORROW IT WILL BE PRESENTED THE CODEC CAPPELLI
It was opened this morning in San Francisco, California, the 15th edition of the
“International Conference on Distributed Multimedia Systems”. For three days, from 10th to 13th September, 80 among the most representative
personalities in the world of research and technological innovation in the
field of multimedia will alternate in the lounge of the Sofitel Hotel to show
the latest news in this field. The countries that are more present are also the
most advanced and active in the field of communication technologies including:
the USA, Japan, China, Taiwan, Germany, Brazil, Sweden, the United Kingdom,
Spain, France, Czech Republic, Portugal. The most numerous representations at
the American Conference – which takes place very close to Sylicon Valley – are those of Taiwan and Italy. This latter is made up of 24 personalities
including academicians, researchers and entrepreneurs, confirming the great
interest in the sector. In particular there are professors and researchers from
the universities of: Salerno, Rome-La Sapienza. Milan, Bari, Naples, Venice Ca’ Foscari, Genoa, Florence.
This particular Italian interest in this area is historic, but also revolves
around the call by the Conference Chairman Mr Shi-Kuo Chang to Dr. Claudio
Cappelli, Chairman of Eco Controllo S.p.A. to introduce the latest
technological innovation in the field of digital image compression, the Codec
Cappelli, and to illustrate the comparative tests made in January by a
consortium of Italian universities and research centers (CeRICT) showing that
the Italian Codec allows to occupy less bandwidth than all the compression
systems in use and more advanced systems as MPEG4 and H264.
The expected intervention of Dr. Claudio Cappelli is scheduled in the middle of
the morning, tomorrow at 11 a.m., and it is scheduled after an extensive
debate.
